You wouldn't have to weasel out of it as you are attempting to now.
Follow Ups:
I already said or implied. My point and position remain the
same in the 1st and 2nd posts, namely1) The "Dan W Mod" is really ... enough been said
2) $300 is too much for desoldering and soldering
3) I would have someone more proficient in this area to really
modify my gear
4) Using this forum to promote
1) Yes. Now you know him.
2) Only if you can do it yourself. It was ME who decided on it. None of your business.
3) Oh yeah? Please do so. It is none of MY business.
4) Really? YOU are the one promoting OTHERS.As a newcomer, and a less experienced audio fan, I really appreciate Dan. He is so easy to access and easy to talk to. Thanks to AA, I could find him and how to reach him. I had heard about Stan Warren, also on this forum. Same could be said about him - who is Stan? At least Dan had himself known, not by himself but others who knew him well. This is an internet forum, and accessability of the person via internet is important for the participant. Well, at least for me. And, I did not want to wait for months for mod. Everyone has his own agenda, and waiting for months without DVD-P was not my priority. Maybe you don't mind waiting forever, maybe because you have another set of system or another CDP/DVDP. It all depends on the taste of each. You can't direct others' course of action. I chose mine based on the information available here, and no regret whatsoever. If someone regrets the judgmentm then it is only himself to blame. If you are really thinking of other inmates' welfare, thank you very much. But as you can see from other post under this, most of inmates do not appreciate your concern. This is a public forum and is based on democracy, like this country. See? You concern is duly noted, but it seems that it is not welcome here. Admit it, then you will be forgiven. Remember Washington story? This is a democratic forum, and Dan changed his behavior after some bashing. Why can't you, if you believe you are entitled to criticize him?
I am normally a quiet participant, but I could not keep myself on this. My apologies if I crossed the line.Happy listening - that's all about this hobby.
Ken
In some aspects, EdT is on the money.
You said it yourself:
***Thanks to AA, I could find him and how to reach him***You think that is an accident?
Do you really think it was a coincedence that Dan was heavily pushing
the unmodified gear just shortly before he announced his profesional interests, or that he had a heavy presence here before he went pro? In fact, he wrote a CES review that was nothing short of an advertisement for his services.
Yes, AA gives the illusion of a democracy, but that does not mean that someone can use these forums to further their fanancial situation
Weather or not Dan's services are worth the money, or if he is kind to his mother is irrelevant. He used AA as his personal advertising venue, and that is just plain WRONG.***This is a democratic forum***
No its not.Jack
Dear Jack,Yes, it was coincidence that I found this forum. About P-3A, I didn't see that way. Did he push unmodified Pioneer DV525 also?
I agree that democracy is always inperfect to certain degree (BTW, democracy means "majority's interest", and has nothing to do with "financial situation" as in your post). But it is participants' responsibility to choose the right from flooded information. My point was whether right or wrong is most of the time decided by majority in this system. Dan decided to decrease his presence because many of the participants felt it was against the Rule, and I think EdT should, too, regarding this kind of meaningless posts. Anyway, this forum is mainly about buying equipment and someone who knows the equipment and how to get it posts the info. It is our job to buy it or not. I don't think it's plain wrong, as long as the information is worthy for the "majority".
This is a discussion which has no place to conclude. Your view is different from mine. That's it. Let's end this here.
This issue has become rather tangled. At the risk of tangling things a bit more, I would ask the following question:WHO is this all about? About Dan, and things he is--or has done--that has struck an ill nerve in you? About the readership of AA, of whom you do or do not have respect for, and whose best interests you do or do not have as high priority? Or about yourself, your feelings, and your view of things as YOU think they should be? In response to your list:
1) Yes, Dan's mod work exists, to 'mixed' reviews: apparently it has the support of the manufacturer, and the blessings of content hobbyists. Has there been any untoward statements of unhappiness or collusion or concern from those sources? If not, does that mean those folks are misguided, too easily satisfied, etc? And on the other side, there is yourself, your concerns, and your statements.
2) Is this to be a lesson on economics? If so, you have hooked a fish that is way under limit, when the pond is full of much bigger fish. $300? Look at the price of Wilson speakers...Lamm electronics...Valhalla cables...etc and etc. To some people that kind of stuff is the height of insanity (especially when they get an idea of the parts cost per product, irrespective of design costs, production cost, profit margin, etc). To others, it is part of the path they choose to travel. Not everyone is capable of building a statement amp or speaker by him- or herself. Granted. But it is also true that there is a large group of hobbyists who are not experienced with, or gifted at, soldering and desoldering. Who should judge for them, how much is too much? Nothing wrong with informing folks of other folks capable of doing mods...unless it is done purely with a negative motive, that kind of sharing of information makes everyone a bit better informed. But isn't it presumptuous to jump the gun and try to make formulate opinions for everyone in your own name?
3) That is well within your rights, and you can choose accordingly...and can express your thoughts freely. But once you start ascribing negative intentions to other people (because they don't act according to your script), aren't you impinging on someone else's rights?
4) A definite gray zone. What is the line between self promotion and philanthropy? Does a small monetary profit (which itself is not the primary goal)--if any--for one person invalidate a profit of greater musical enjoyment (bought at their own choice, with no misrepresentation, swindling, etc.) for a number of people in all instances? Anyone have a well-defined definition? If not, then each such point of contention is up to the dicretion a number of different parties...the foremost and utmost of whom are the moderators of this forum. This is not intended to be a site run by vigilantes is it? Isn't there a Marshal in this town? Sure, the concerned townsfolk can petition their lawgivers...but how far should they go in taking matters into their own hands???
1) If you are tired of hearing about my work, then please stop reading posts about it.2) If you think the price I am charging for the mod is too much, then do your own work yourself.
3) Who are you to say just how qualified I am to do anything?
4) I have dealt with this issue already, too many times in the past, and have already said my apologies...enough said.
I am polite to a point, but your post is beyond bordering on a personal attack and I don't appreciate it.
Please feel free to express your opinions as is your right, but please keep slanderous and judgemental comments to yourself until you have evidence to support your claims.

PS: If this is an attempt to drive me away from this forum, I am afraid it is not working. There are too many GOOD people here with whom I enjoy learning from and sharing with.
Yes, you are the BAD guy, so please don't bother us anymore. Your type of posts are not welcome here. I suggest you hang out at AR, instead.
