The Cambridge is quite well made and sounds excellent. I liked it so much that I traded up for the 840C. Smooth and well-defined are the terms I would use to describe the 640C v. 2. Direct comparison to the Benchmark DAC-1 and several other fine CD players did not embarass the Cambridge in the least. Good luck!

Yeah I've been eyeing the 840 too. It's gotta be one of the best if not the best for that price, while not cheap, is reasonable for the level of technology and commitment to respectable build it shows.
If I hold off for awhile I could get that one, because I've spent a lot on gear already this year. Now I need to buy some food, LOL!
I do not want to go separate's this time. I had so many DACs in the '90's and it burnt me out. Remember how many DACs there were then? And so many good ones around a thousand too.
