I played Pete Townshend's Deep End Live through a Sony 595 first and then the ART DI/) (with Stancor power supply) and the ART/Panny combo just plain blows the Sony away. Do I need to clean my ears or is this recently revived from the cupboard DAC matching up to the hype of a few years ago?:)
Just have a big fat grin on my face and thought I would share.
Follow Ups:
Dear Sir,which Panny are you referring at?
Are you saying that you got the best performance from the chain:
Sony 595 > ART DI/O > Panny (?) ?
Which cables (digital and analog) are you using?
Moreover I see that you have also a Panasonic S47 at hand (that I have as well).
Have you tried it in place of the Sony 595 ? and more in general, what do you think of it as a CD transport/player?Thank you very much indeed.
Kind regards,
I think the Panasonic makes a good transport. I havent connected the Sony to the ART yet (it has a toslink out only).Cables are some throw away stuff from Best Buy.
I think if you could get your hands on an ART it would enhance your Panny on certain material.

Thank you for your kind and valuable advice.
I will try to trace a vendor of this brand here in Italy.
Kind regards,
...any more thoughts about the DAC1 (Benchmark) and what your gut tells you about the DI/O ? I think the DI/O is a classic DAC in spite of its power supply.
The Benchmark actually sounds pretty good in my main system. It's not edgy at all. I havent done an A/B comparason between it and the ART yet (maybe I fear to?!!:) )If I have to say anything about the DAC1 in relation to the DI/O it has to be that the DAC1 sounds less distorted/colored. It certainly doesnt sound as if its changing the sound fed it.
The DI/O does put a "spin" (a very pleasant spin I might add) when using it's own clock at 88.2 and it does well when fed a 96 signal. When using an external clock it's good but not astounding.
I agree it's great value and might one day be a classic. Mines only has a upgraded power supply and Vishay Dale resistors approximating a 2V output (its still hot). I have put in Cadras RCA jacks at the back and removed the tube. Otherwise it's fairly stock.
