Hey Scrith,
I have the Dac1 and have just discovered the amazing AKF K701 headphones that are making me completely rethink the thousands I have invested and spent developing my rig. (PC>Squeezebox>Big Ben reclocking device>Tact 2.0s room correction processor> Dac1>Bryston 4bsst power amp> Thiel 2.4 speakers).
I'd like to rearrange my setup with the Dac right beside me which would be more convenient for headphone use and allow me to use the analog volume control instead of the upstream digital control in the Tact. Technically the built in volume control on the Lavry seems better than the Dac1s but I didn't realize one has to fumble around with push buttons. Do you have to actually enter the number or do you just hold a button down.
Follow Ups:
You just have to push the toggle switch that is to the right of the numeric volume display up or down. It is a bit awkward compared to a knob, though. And the DA10 is fairly light, so you may have to hold it down with another finger while pushing the toggle switch up. Not bad, but not something I'd like to do all the time.

Hi Scrith,
I was checking out your equipment to see if we had similar tastes and I noticed you also are into headphones. Do you consider the Dac1 or Lavry headphone amps to be any good or does one need a dedicated outboard amp to really get the most out of the headphone experience? Personally I find the Dac1 great with the AKG K701s. Some people might consider it too analytic but I "LISTEN" to hear all the sublty of what is going on musically and consider the Dac1's surgical precision a plus.

The Head-Fi site is THE place for headphone info (and I have many posts there). I personally have not tried the Lavry's headphone outputs (since I have an amazing dedicated headphone amp), but I've read that some people believe it has a high-quality headphone output (higher than most, if not all, DACs).The DAC1's headphone output, which I used before I got my headphone amp, is adequate. A high-end dedicated headphone amp (particularly a balanced headphone amp) will be significantly better. Isn't that always the case with this hobby...there is always something better out there, somewhere? :-)
