" No digital filters, but it does take 16 bit and convert it to 20 bit"THis is not true. The Monarchy M24 uses a Burr Brown DF1704 8 times oversampling digital filter. There is no upsampling (asynchronous rate conversion) and it does not increase the word length to 20 bit. You are right though that it is not a non-oversampling dac because it uses a very good digital filter. The DAC chips are BB PCM63, which are true 20bit chips but they will process a 16 bit signal at 16 bits. A 24 bit signal will be processed at 20 bits. The output stage is passive IV with tube output. No opamps of any kind.

Thanks for the information. In my conversations with Mr. Poon I could have sworn he indicated the 16 bit signal was converted to 20 bits, while also explaining the 24 bit signal was processed at 20 bits.I also noticed on the Monarchy webiste the concept of piggy backing DAC chips on earlier models. Can this apply to the M24 as well?
