Both. The M555ES is a better player and a better transport than the 1500. The 1500 is older technology and was virtually indistinguishable from a Carver SD/A-350 5 Disc Changer. I was dissapointed because I had read such good things about the 1500. The easiest way to characterize the difference is the M555ES sounds more analog. This was the top of the line jukebox, notice the ES suffix. I bought it for ease of use and was surprised at how good it sounds. With good vibration isolation the M555ES becomes quite liquid sounding. No one would guess you're playing a jukebox if they didn't see it.

Wow. Interesting. Analogue, I like! The M555ES seems hard to find though. Do you happen to know of any similar models in the ES line that might be as good or better?

Sorry, don't know about other models. I noticed there were a few M555ES in completed ebay auctions just now, but nothing current.
