I will have to study it more carefully soon. For anybody wondering about what parts the Benchmark DAC1 uses, I found some info on the Benchmark site. The asynchronous sample rate converter used is the Analog Devices AD1896. Digital transceiver is an AKM AK4114. DAC chip is the Analog Devices AD1853. Headphone output circuit is a TI/Burr-Brown Buf634.

HowdyI think that it's easier to code ASRC for a DSP than to explain it to a novice. Actually I know it is :)
To tell the truth, I don't fully understand it yet myself. I am on sabattical from work for the moment :-), and I am passing the time by teaching myself DSP from Oppenheim and Schafer and some homework assignments I found from university web sites. Being an analog/RF guy, this stuff is definitely different. Thirty years ago, I had Schafer for the continuous-time Fourier transform stuff. I could have taken his DSP sequence back then, but my rationale for not doing so was "I'm interested in audio - what good could DSP possibly be?". Oops :-).
