  Does it have to be a DVD player or you just want a compact size transport? If the latter is the case, just get an NEC CDR-602 CD-Rom drive.

    At this point, I would really prefer a portable DVD player (can do double duty as video player when needed). NEC transport is not a bad idea though, but apparently this product is obsolete and I don't want to take the time or trouble to locate one on eBay or somewhere else on the web. Most (?all) of the currently available external drives are USB devices requiring a computer connection & I don't want to go this route.
