Call me prejudiced, but even though some people swear by older digital gear, I'm not impressed. My own ears tell me that digital sources have improved tremendously over the last 20 years.
The old Philips players do, however, make excellent paperweights. ;-)

Exactly. Some of the analogue sections from the late 80's players made up for the shortcomings of the digital sections, but the only way I would buy a player from the 80's would be if it was next to free.
Not to mention that parts will be unavailable.
Yes, Philips units had issues from the start....Avoid
