... I'm sympathetic to these ideas. And then I remember Napster. As a music lover, I LIKE youtube and other free ways of getting exposure to new music. But I think I things were better when the music industry made money. After all, most of the IT guys who contribute to open-source projects have day jobs writing proprietary (or privately owned) code. Also, I'm a writer, and I like to get paid for what I write. When people steal it, I get pissed.
Follow Ups:
who's saying anything about stealing music?sure Napster that was the wild west days of the internet, basically a free for all with copyright theft. If you wrap FLAC into Ogg Vorbis you can have DRM at the server level.
I don't understand why this is hard?
I record music myself, that is another problem, everyone with a $100 sound card is now a musician, the music industry was destroyed by that fact that anyone with a computer can make music. However horrible it is. I'll put a link below to my latest recording.
Real hackers are on the dark web ordering cocaine and hitmen using Tor with bitcoin. Seriously.

"However horrible it is." This is an honest and accurate take.
Nt
