"The Happy Zone is the red circle at the center of the dartboard, from which every ring expanding outward is farther from the ideal, and thus worth less"
But this is not true, there are four spots on the treble ring worth more than a bullseye. Cancel my subscription :)

It seems to me that those with the most expensive systems appear to be the least satisfied. They always want "MORE" and never have "Enough" IMO!

People at any income may or may not be doing the search for better sound.
The one difference is rich folks can do so easier and faster.
So I am saying "Your bias is showing".
Poor people whine just as much as the well off. It just is more annoying to listen to some rich jerk whine... LOL.
That is why I avoid Audio Shark and Whats Best Forums. LOL1
So four spots...
First clarity nuts like me. I will give up other perfections to have perfect clarity at my price point
Second, Bass nuts. Folks who want to rumble their guts at all times..
Third mid range warmth. Old timey type tube folks who love the midrange and bask in it.
Fourth ??? Maybe data.. Equipment which meets total perfection in measurements.. Who cares about how it sounds!
And still looking for my last DAC. Finding the happy zone definitely will cause one to cease buying gear :)
You'll recognize the piece up top. Seems we both have very good taste. :)
Have you listened to either of the Cary tubed DACS? On the 3rd shelf is the Cary 100t fed by the $500 Cambridge Audio transport with a Zu S/PDIF cable in between. Don't have anything to compare the combo to other than the senior citizen all-in-one player they replaced (big upgrade there, no surprise). But they make nice music and put *me* in the happy zone. First time in a long time I can get really immersed in the music playing little silver discs instead of big black ones.

PS: My rack really isn't crooked. Really. :)
I own the PS Audio programmable gate array DAC. Also, looking at Schiit Yggy.
