Thanks, everyone, for reading the column. I hope you're enjoying it as much as I am. I've shared this thread with the girls, and Natalie felt inspired to offer a response. I've posted her response, along with some of my own thoughts, at my Stereophile blog. Please check it out, if you're interested.

I think your post and the great link to your blog got overlooked here on AA as it was buried in the mix as they say.
I would suggest posting it as a new thread. I think many would enjoy reading it.
I look at it in an entirely differently way; my stereo directly connects me to the greatest musicians. It's all about communication of beauty! I'm NEVER lonely listening to my great vinyl records. I am listening to the classic Miles Davis' "Round About Midnight' (Miles, Coltrane, Garland, Chambers, and Jones) record over my fantastic classical system (AR SP 8, AR D 70, Counterpoint SA 2 prepreamp, VPI Super Scoutmaster, Benz Ruby 3, and, yes, the fantastic Fulton J speakers) as i post this. Miles and Coltrane are IN MY ROOM!!!
Stephen:
A fine and classy blog entry. Thank you for putting together.
I am very glad you took the thread for what it was, a lighthearted jab.
Truthfully, your column brought me back about 15 years ago when I was in my 20s and I had a small bachelor pad with an NAD integrated, some nice bookshelf speakers, a Sony 5 disc carousel, and Radio Shack cables.
I have been waiting for Stereophile to bring into the fold some diversity. Reading equipment reviews and editorials by old guys gets a little stale. Your column is a true breath of fresh air.
And, you are a better man than I! When I was single and surrounded by such a bevy of beauties, in my greed and lecherousness, I could never have kept them as such long term quality friends as you have.
Keep up the great work!
Pretty good summing up,RN.I just cant recover from Roger's and Maria's losses.
Cheers
Bill
Bill:
Maria is a one dimensional basher who can't move, has no volley, or transition game. Glad she lost!
Roger simply did not have to deal with the level of play that Tsonga, Djokovic, Nadal, and Murray are displaying today back in 2005 or 2006.
He has stuck to his 90 sq in racket, which is a silly move, and he has not tried to finish more points inside the service line consistently. His second server is also very attackable now.
I was devastated when Borg lost to McEnroe in 81. Still have not recovered!
:-)
