Yes, I heard it personally at a show. In the last 15 years I have attended 12 shows. Both coasts. You?Mark Levinson, the man, did a demo of the device. The sound of the system as a whole was very nice, but at the time, way out of my range. With that in mind, I guess the device under test was not affecting the sound since it was in the chain. Several flawed recordings were put on and easily fixed with but 1 or 2 Dbs of judiciously applied EQ.
I was there at the very demo when the term Mark Levinson "The man" was coined. It was a Cello demo and the term came from a question from a person at the demo asking if he was Mark Levinson as in the company. The entire room died laughing at Marks' response. The term then stuck as a man versus a company that had his name on it.

are you getting by with some 70's vintage 5 band graphic equalizer? But seriously, a few questions.
Do you think that the Cello would be significantly better than a 70's vintage 5 band graphic equalizer? Either Yes or No, would you be so kind as to provide as short exlanation.
Thanks.
For one, the Cello did not alter phase as the knobs were turned. Subjectivist audiophiles like yourself would say that they hear phase anomolies being introduced by such devices. I heard no such anomolies out of the Cello in the rather brief period of time that I heard it.As far as anything in the 70s. While circuit design hasn't changed all that much, transistors and other components have. We all remember the grain that came out of those "vintage" components. Objectively.
The only EQ I need and have is Steradian unit by Legacy. That too alters the level (40 - 80 Hz), while maintaning (even restoring) proper phase alignment. It is being used only in the LF portion of my 3/4 fully active rig, thus preserving midrange and high freq neutrality.

"Some recordings are too shrill, some too mellow. Some have weak bass and on some it's overwhelming." For then " ... a few adjustments and the recording sounds much more like actual musical instruments." They seem to know what they're talking about, why they might challenge you thusly ... "Have you ever actually heard what real musical instruments sound like? Try it sometime, you might be surprised."Apparently fellas like you would be real surprised if only you stopped being stubborn and got your hands on a good 70's vintage 5 band graphic equalizer. Like they say ... "Try it sometime, you might be surprised."
And Ozzie, drop the crap about "... the grain that came out of those 'vintage' components." OK? Open you mind boy and give it a try! "... you might be surprised."

Well I don't. Some recordings are too shrill, some too mellow. Some have weak bass and on some it's overwhelming. For me, a few adjustments and the recording sounds much more like actual musical instruments. Have you ever actually heard what real musical instruments sound like? Try it sometime, you might be surprised.
