"No one of the guys telling me how bad my speakers possibly are have never ever taken the care to either listen or to measure. "Many audiophiles, include most of your respondents in this category, do not listen they look! Or why do you think there is panic and anxiety in Audiophileland at the mention of blind listening, the standard retort is "You mean I cannot see what I am listening to, I get anxious when I cannot see what I am listening to", Of course all that anxiety disappears and they can identify all those subtle differences when you restore 'sighted' listening :~).

I suggest that Stereophile runs a poll with the question what the fact of knowing the identity of the component in question adds to the listening experience. Why is seeing that an important parameter to a perceptional experience that is based exclusively on sound pressure waves, that stuff that heads towards your ears to make little bones and fibres vibrate and resonate.Caveman would know the difference between animal food and predators without seeing them! If he had to wait until he could see what it was, I don't think he had make it all the way up to homo sapiens.
