Have you heard a top-notch vinyl playback setup? The problems with vinyl are real, but you must listen to a good setup to put them in perspective.
Every audiophile I've encountered professes one of two things: that CD playback is superior to vinyl, or that vinyl playback is superior to CD. I've noticed these folks devote most of their energy to ensuring refined playback of their favored medium. This makes the question undecidable from testimony, or even the experience of visiting a few audiophiles.
I've heard superb sound from both, but in different setups.
