I have been on a Missa Solemnis kick lately - have your heard Ansermet's recording (I have not). I just got Steinberg which got good reviews.
When you're on a Missa Solemnis kick, uyou have to take different recordings slowly.

I will do some research, new one for me, I see it was written during the era of the 9th... a second rendition of his mass in C?

  is a whole different creature. I like the Giulini Mass in C, but haven't listened to it that much. The Missa Solemnis is a massive complex piece, that I am also not as familiar with as I should be. I think Beethoven regarded it as his greatest accomplishment.

      Readily available as part of the EMI series Great Performances of the Century. I am sure Klemp as other releases but I haven't heard them.
