In Reply to: RE: JM Records to die for: Beethoven Trippe with Oistrakh, Richter et al posted by fstein on January 15, 2014 at 03:14:35
I love the Triple concerto, I have lots of different versions, old and new. This one is special. And the sound is unique. T his SACD is the real thing.
Follow Ups:
Check out his comments in the book below. He claimed Karajan was more interested in the album cover photo than in the performance (!).
I agree the Triple Concerto itself hardly deserves its whipping boy status among Beethoven's works - his stylistic fingerprints are all over it. I also agree that some of those Karajan/BPO recordings have come up very well in the 24/96 remasterings that EMI did for SACD release. (I don't have the Triple Concerto release, but I do have the Haydn "London" and Schubert "Unfinished" symphonies in the 24/96 download from HD Tracks, and it's great.)
I have a DVD of the fours seasons with Mutter. Karajan is about to die and you can see the pride he placed on his appearance. The man had an attitude.
If I was hanging out with Mutter, I'd primp too.
Happy listening,
Jim
