And you're right that our preferences for higher-def could have a psychological component to them. I guess the only question is what the threshold is at which even higher def wouldn't make any further difference. I've convinced myself that even fairly "low" levels of higher rez (such as 24/44.1 or 24/48) make a noticeable difference in listening, assuming everything else is equal (a big assumption!). And I'm pretty enthusiastic about the highest PCM rez I have for some albums, (i.e., DXD - 24/352.8) - such as (just restricting myself to the Mahler Symphonies) the Gatti/Concertgebouw Mahler 1 and 4, the Fischer/BFO Mahler 3, or the Jansons/Concertgebouw Mahler 7 (ironically, all obtained from Native DSD). BTW, same with the DSD/DSF recordings - the "4x" DSD (DSD 256) recordings I have sound wonderful - my system does not have the capability to play DSD 512 at this point, and I wonder if I would hear a difference. DXD and DSD 256 already seem so stratospheric when it comes to resolution, and I wonder if the sky is really the limit.
Follow Ups:
people need or can tell apart.
I met an Audio Engineer who said mp3 is all anyone needs.
Luckily I ( we?) aren't bothered by what Other people do...
Engine-ears?
system.
I hadn't dealt with Qobuz default settings.
