But. . . maybe that's just me! ;-)
Certainly, Blomstedt's famous earlier cycle with the Sk Dresden had little of the HIP sacraments in its liturgy.
And that kind of approval of the Snorrington/Gardiner influence is something I'd expect from the likes of Alex Ross.
You're too easily influenced by mainstream corporate publications.
Follow Ups:
be assured, it isn't from a guy on a blog who categorically dismisses a vast and exciting musical movement. Ross, and other critics, I very much enjoy reading not necessarily for their opinions as much as their expressive ways of conveying them.
You know, less of the "listen to this! Gee, it's great and that performer's so H O T!"
Actually, it's very interesting that you never find writers like Ross on discussion boards where they would actually have to defend their points. Geez, you're naive, and your admission that you read music criticism, not so much for the truth of the observations but for the manner of the writing, is telling.
And, yes, there are shorthand posts which appear here regarding interesting new (i.e., "fresh"!) recordings which other folks might be interested in. These often develop into more in depth discussions, in case you haven't noticed.
And of course, we all know that attractive musicians can't possibly play very well, don't we? After all, we're sophisticated and open to "new things" instead!
I guess I hurt your feelings...
