Ugly film, as Aronofsky's usually are. I have found no redeeming value in his negativity. In this particular film, I also don't like the lead, so there's also that.
Follow Ups:
I've been able to "read between the lines" of your posts on the film asylum here, and I can tell that you have the hots for Natalie Portman! ;-)
on tv and movies is WAY OFF!
The only one that was even Close was
Copying Beethoven, about his Copyist.
Most are mean spirited in the extreme.
I couldn't watch that Black Swan movie!
Nobody understands how an Orchestra works,
from Law and Order to Mozart in the Jungle,
it's just terrible and Wrong.
. . . and more about psychology and troubled fantasy. Ballet was merely the vehicle.
I do agree with you about classical music movies in general. There are exceptions though. Although Ken Russell is mostly pretty bad (Lisztomania, anyone?), his first biopic, about Elgar, mostly kept to the facts in an interesting way. I also saw a Czech biopic of Smetana, in which Sviatoslav Richter had a cameo role as Franz Liszt - they did a good job with his make-up! Then there are a bunch of Soviet films about various Russian composers, including "The Great Glinka" which won a Stalin prize - what more could you want? ;-)
