We've seen a lot of modern ballet NOT associated with classical music. The audiences can be a little different.OTOH, my wife dances ballet and my obsession with classical music definitely broadened its appeal for her beyond the narrow band of ballet music proper!:-)

Eventually you make enough mistakes that you learn something and it looks like talent.

I find the dancing often looks silly and for me detracts from the music.
I did see a performance of the original choreography (Nijinsky) with the Joffrey Ballet and the Cleveland Orchestra (as the pit band!). Though I did find the dancing silly, I could understand those who said that the riot at the premiere was as much about the dancing as about the music.
I assume you mean the Rite of Spring.
