It's incredibly atmospheric and beautiful.
I haven't heard the Sheffield recording you're referring to, but I love that company's minimalist microphone approach to the recordings they did in LA with Leinsdorf (Wagner, Debussy, Stravinsky).
Other recordings of the work I like include Svetlanov (he made many recordings of it, but I think there was one on the Japanese Canyon/Exton label which I really liked), Vedernikov/Bolshoi on Pentatone, and the Russian NO with Carlo Ponti (the son of Sophia Loren!), also on Pentatone.
And you're right: there are no "afterludes" - but there are postludes! ;-)

My younger cousin told me about a very hot dinner he once had at the Night Town supper club that involved some sort of 'Ludes. There was likely a "post-ludes".
He and the girl he was with are no longer welcome there.
