building interior certainly was magnificent.
I did manage to attend part of "The Ring" with a wildly enthusiastic and well-dressed audience. The solemn old gentlemen next to me was curt before the performance; during the first intermission, he couldn't shut up he was so happy. Different culture, different behavior. I attended several other performances, including one featuring a smaller group of musicians from the Vienna Phil in a strange venue with an open ceiling and seating all around it, looking down on the musicians.

We went inside St. Stephen's and, like you, never heard the organ there. It all seemed pretty touristy compared to other cathedrals we visited, although I suspect many more other cathedrals now are more like St. Stephen's was then in this respect.
A highlight of our time in Vienna was when we went to the Upper Belvedere and saw Bruckner's quarters there. We never saw any actual musical performances during that whole trip however.
..took a pass.
Hochsolden, OTOH, now that was a Cathedral.
