Just after I graduated from the Royal Academy of Music I played bass in various local orchestras in London. We did one concert in the Royal Albert Hall with John Ogden, which was one of the saddest events of my classical playing period.
The rehearsals were with Craig Sheppard, who was fine but not special. The concert was Tchaikovsky's PC #1. Right from the start, Ogden was in another league altogether. His touch was magical. Then in the middle of the slow movement he just stopped playing and sat there on the piano seat looking out into space. A nurse appeared and escorted him offstage.
What a brilliant pianist Ogden was, and what a sad fate. Craig, happily, is alive and well and evidently flourishing.

no ... I've always been human & don't place any credence in reincarnation
If I may ask, which orchestra was it?
