Ever since I saw this thread and recalled it I've been trying to remember the soloist and can't. William Kraft perhaps? Ring a bell? I was told back then, in the Seventies, he had been an up and comer as a youngster but performance anxiety and the bottle derailed his career. Our conductor was married to Eunice Podis, the resident pianist of the Cleveland back then and they were helping him with a come back.
