axe to grind about this subject, but it is very hard not to notice how enticing many of the women artists are in this modern era. In bygone years, Landowska and Nikolayeva were giants--- would these less photogenic women be stars, today?
(Men don't seem to have this particular issue).

Didn't matter one whit to me. Although I didn't really appreciate his kicking action...
sex after 70 is like trying to play pool with a rope
The test to do with any pianist with "looks" or "charisma".......
Get a seemingly impressive performance from a video, and listen to it audio-only...... More often than not, you'll then realize the performance wasn't all that great.
I've done it with Yuja Wang, I've done it with Lang Lang, I've done it with Martha Argerich.....
I've also experienced this with violinists and conductors (most notably Maxim Vengerov and Carlos Kleiber).........
You know who is playing so what you get is confirmation bias. I used to set up actual blind tests over on the Steve Hoffman forum. Those results were interesting to say the least.
Who is that female pianist from former Soviet Georgia? Her name but not large breasts escapes me at the moment. She dresses & bounces (yes, bounces at the keyboard) in such a way that a boob is likely to go flying someday. I'm not sure she's any good. I think she stays with the showy repertoire. She's not pulling out Scriabin or Sorabji anytime soon. I wouldn't call her a babe musician because she appears tall & broad-shouldered.
"'Cause when love is gone, there's always justice./And when justice is gone, there's always force./And when force is gone, there's always Mom. Hi Mom!" Laurie Anderson, "O Superman (For Massenet)"
That would be my bud, Khatia Buniatishvili, one of the greatest pianists now before the public. Greatest recording of the Liszt Sonata ever, no ifs ands or buts. And, no, I don't expect her to pull out any Sorabji very soon. What pianist would you expect to pull out the Sorabji? ;-)
Being tall and and having broad shoulders disqualify someone as a babe musican? Your standards are too high - although Khatia is hardly the most babeliocious, she's babeliocious enough. Doesn't matter - she's a great, great pianist. (Actually, her sister, Gvantsa, is more of a babe.)
That's Gvantsa on the left
And the same visa-versa or whatever. Almost all young people are beautiful when you reach a certain age.
As I have gotten older == now 83 -- I have found older women more beautiful.
"I'd trade places with any one of them... if I could."
I don'twant to name names as it would be demeaning to those individuals. IMO success is still mostly merit based in classical music.
My go-to example is always pianist Yundi Li, whose CD booklets often look like photo spreads for GQ. As for the women, you'll never hear me complaining about how enticing they are! - In fact, as I get older and older, more and more of them look more and more enticing! ;-)
I would post a picture of Mr. Li, but I'd rather post a picture of his "apprentice" - at least according to the unimpeachable dianjinwa.com site. They say she's more enticing than Lang Lang's wife! As the article itself says: "Excellent. Body. Amazing"! Actually, I think her pussycat is pretty enticing too!
