Cut my Berlioz eye teeth on Golschmann's reading with, IIRC, the Vienna State Opera Orchestra of the "Symphonie Fantastique" on Vanguard vinyl in the early 1960's. Same with Khachsturian's "Gayne" coupled with Kabalevsky's "The Comedians" on a Vanguard Stereolab LP. I should have kept those recordings.

Follow Ups:
First classical music I ever listened to was a 78 rpm set of Rach 2 with Rubinstein, Golschmann, NBC Symphony (I'm not entirely sure about which orchestra).
Got this as an 8-year-old in August 1948...just don't ask how.
