Hello,I know, there is nothing like trying ... but still: Has anyone compared the Shunyata Python with the Anaconda and can give me a bit of an impression?
Background: I am currently auditioning a Python for my amp, and it does a lot of things very nicely ... well, it is less detailed than the Elrod EPS 3 sig that I normally use in that position, and it certainly lacks the Elrod "magic" and realism, but it does produce the fuller body and warmer midrange that my system needs. I also tried the King Cobra v2 in that position, which I found warmer and slower and shunyata'er than the Python (does my system some good) but also grainier and less tonally correct. In my system, that is, I am aware that other people here have reported the opposite.
So I keep wondering whether the Anaconda VX would do a better job than the Python at being warmer and fuller while also allowing for more detail and realism ....
Thanks for any input !

Thomas,The Python is not an ideal design for most amplifiers, and for that matter, neither is the Anaconda vX. This is explained at length on our web-site's power system guide.
For amplifiers, either the Taipan or Anaconda -Alpha would best suit the application you mention.
And you are right, there is no substitute for hands-on experience in the realm of cables and power.
I recently auditioned both an Anaconda VX and Python; however, I was using them on a Sony SCD-1/Mark Levinson 360S combo, not on a power amp, so this might not apply. I ended up choosing the Python for its ability to warm up the rather cold sound of the Sony's CD transport, without losing speed or open-ness. I found the Anaconda VX to provide more apparent detail, but less "air" around the instruments. It made the Sony seem a touch slower and closed-in. Someone else said the Anaconda is "rich and heavy," and that's what I found.

I can only imagine that the Anaconda vX did not have adequate time in burn-in or 'settling' time in the system. It is also more sensitive to being moved than the Python or our other cables. The Anaconda vX will sound slow and dull for a number of hours, if not days after shipping. Like many other products in the power arena, ours are unfortunately not 'plug and play' ready.

I think your observation may be on target, Grant. The Anaconda vX was a dealer demo and I assume it was broken-in, but I only had about a 30 hour window in which to test it so it didn't get much "settle" time after it was installed in my rig. Perhaps it didn't get a fair chance. It's probably for the best anyway, because I really like what the Python does and I couldn't afford the Anaconda anyway!FYI I have a Taipan on order for my Audio Research tube preamp. I auditioned the Taipan based on a very strong recommendation from Audio Research.

That after receiving them last Monday and having them go 24x7 and then taking out my Elrod EPS2 and 3 lastnight there was a very big change. A change for the better. Deeper soundstage and greater dynamics. I am going to use them for my Meitner/Philips combo and for my Tenor Hybrid when they get here soon. But for what I am using now it really changed the system synergy.
Grant,
thanks for your input ! It's an integrated amp (see my system profile), and the Taipan I tried was very good but in the end of the day a bit too lean, not rich enough in my application. This is why I am back to trying NR cords ...

TomYou'll find the Anaconda richer, more detailed and less aggressive or thumpy as the Python. The Python tends to bloat the mid-bass in my system but is fantastic in its midrange, esp on female vocals. You won't get the Elord's realism in the Anaconda. Sometimes a combination of different cords will get you want.

Thank you all very much for your input !!Is the overall tonal balance of the Anaconda about the same as the Python's, is it brighter, or darker?
Thanks again,
When I first audited the Python, I had it hook up to my power amp. The improvement over the Accustic Zen Tsunami was very little. Not worth the extra money. I then connected the Python to my EAD TM 8000 Pro (Pre/Pro). There is a big improvement over the Acoustic Zen Tsunami. The Python is here to stay. You may want to try the Taipan for your power amp.
The Anaconda will sound more like the King Cobra than like the Python. I suspect you'll find it too rich and heavy.
