I have heard Valhalla in several different installations and I have listened to several different Joseph speakers. Based on this experience, I speculated that if Mr. Yata heard that the "sound was killed," it was more likely the Josephs than the Valhallas that were giving him this impression. Had I spoken more carefully, I would have said it was likely the MATCH of the two that was responsible, but because I prefer Valhalla cable to Joseph speakers, I was less diplomatic. No Nordost cable is a pleasant or natural sounding match for speakers that sound tipped up, as all but the big (can't remember model number) Josephs sound to me. (Josephs tend to be mated with tube amps such as VTL's - Jeff's choice - which warm them a bit.) My guess is that they (and perhaps not Thiels either, which are also often mated with tube amps) are NOT really tipped up at all but flat, which in speakers almost always SOUNDS tipped up compared with concert hall sound which is considerably down in the treble region. Note my verb in the first sentence is "speculated." I have no idea what was really making Mr. Yata unhappy, but am speculating it had to do with a poorly judged cable/speaker match.

I see… you are the “professional” who use “synergy”, “balance”, “tipped-up” and “contra- tipped-up”. Have you ever seen of imagined any playback insulation where each individual component is indivisibly neutral and dose not requires any “balancing” or “external fixing”? Actually I do not need an answer…I know it.I will give you a trip Mr. Enjoy the Muzik Reviewer.
There are some reasons why a system built around of elements that are way off but “neutrally balanced” will always less capable then a system built around the individually neutral components. Which reasons? That will be your homework. If you decipher what is going on then you may sell it as you “punch line” when you push a new product by your professional doodles. By the way if you discover what is going on then you will be able to see why in context of neutral system the Nordost cables should be hold at Audiogon only….
It is not I, you silver-tongued, humble, self-effacing personnage, who am balancing components, it is someone who has foolishly bought an "unneutral" component, whatever that is, tipped up or down as the case may be, and who sadly finds himself in need of an opposing tip. A bad situation to be in, we both agree, though I doubt we agree about much else, so let's not waste each other's time tossing clever insults. No tipping (or tripping) allowed.
