Try the FTM-4 GOLD... the GOLD really makes a difference... I auditionned the SQ-88 against the FTM-4 and there was not a great difference (compared to the price)... When the dealer put a pair of FTM 4 GOLD, it made a huge difference. These cables were tried on Wadia 861 cd, Nagra mono amps (tube) and Verity Parsifal... Too bad the FTM-4 Gold are over my budget...By the way, you have very nice gear...
Follow Ups:
More quiet, less forward, or more dynamic, etc.?BTW, thanks for your appreciation.
I did not find either cable to be too forward... Both were demo cables (they must have been well broken in)... from what I remember, the FTM Gold sounded more rich. Also Patricia Barber (first track of Cafe Blue) seemed to stand out more from the music). If I remember correctly, the bass was more controlled and less thin (not that is really was with the SQ-88).I have auditionned those cables last year, so I wouldn't be able to be more precise than that (wouldn't want to give false info).
One thing I remember well is that there was really a clear difference between the 2 cables...
My only advise is if you CAN afford the FTM 4 Gold, go audition them... If you can't afford them, DO NOT EVEN THINK about giving them a try. You will regret the fact you can't afford upgrading to FTM-4 Gold (beleive me, been there, done that).
Of course, this is my own opinion... And like any other cables, sound may differ on different components...
By the way, speakers were connected with Siltech LS-180...
Best Regards
I've heard the FTM Gold and it's great. Unfortunely a Siltech rep told me they were being discontinued. Not because they were not selling but because they cost more than the entry level G5 and didn't sound as good. I've heard both and hate to say it but I agree. If you can find a FTM Gold used go for it. It's a great, great cable. If you can't find it used, there's always G5.
