greetings: i know that this topic has been covered in the past, but interested in current inmates experiences with non-naim speaker cables on naim integrated amps (i have the nait 2). i'm looking for less expensive and more flexible. any recommendations?
PS really liking the nait 2 as my non-tube summer amp.
thanks!

I would suggest trying something like the linked Van Damme cable ( UK website but there is a USA distributor, see below). Van Damme make superb cables which are much used in the pro studio world ( not just a claim but actually true for once- users include Abbey Road and the BBC).
I cannot find the electrical specification for inductance which is the important one given the role of substituting for a Naim cable when used with a Naim amp ( see the rest of the thread for the reason). However the construction type and the low capacitance figure ( Inductance and capacitance are usually trade offs against each other) suggest it will be OK. You could always check with the US distributors:

It should meet your requirement for cost ( should be well under $10/metre unterminated) . However flexibility is another matter as spaced conductors are likely to provide the solution for the high inductance needed so as not to place your amp's stability in the danger area.
Hi -andre d,
As someone whom has owned the original Naim ( 1984 | 1990 ) then having replaced it with an Onix OA-21S | Soap 2 at said time, only to return to a Nait 2 Olive ( 2002 | 2003 ) and a later vintage of the same Nait 2 ( 2012 | 2014 ) before finally getting back into tube Integrated's.
Yet along the ways, I've had great results in using various brands of speaker cables ranging from Harmonic Technologies Pro-11+ | Crimson Audio RM Music Link | CRL ( Cable Research Labs Bronze and Blue Note Series ) | Acoustic Zen Satori | NVA LS5 | LFD Spiroflex, and not one time had any indication that any of them were putting any sort of stress on either of these amps.
I'd hope that by being someone whom has owned his share of both Naim separates and several Naits would be enough to assume you that you do have options besides NAC-A4 | A5 speaker cables.

thanks a lot for the input. based on your recommendation and reading other forums i'm looking for some lfd spiroflex. hopefully can find a used pair.
all the best -andre

You're more then welcome. But know that here in the states it can be obtained from Gene Rubin Audio @ $350|3m. If all else fails?, try here:https://www.hifishark.com/search?q=lfd
But in truth......, I found the NVA LS5 ( Nene Valley Audio ) to be a much much better sounding cable with said Nait 2 Olive.
Good luck hunting either down, but in the end it's more then worth your effort.

thanks again. keeping an eye out for a good price on NVA LS5s. now thats not a name thats easy to remember or keep in mind - its more of a license plate. :)
i appreciate your input!

Hello - andre d,
That sounds like a plan......, yet I'll make it easier for you to remember it by offering this upon your behalf:
http://stores.ebay.com/nene-valley-audio/Loudspeaker-Cables-/_i.html?_nkw=LS5&submit=Search&_fsub=2672793&_sid=132923798
Happy shopping, and more importantly......, listening.
Enjoy the 4th.....
wow is that an interesting system. depends, it seems, if i understand it, on members being honest.and not simply keeping a "free" cable.
any direct experience with that cable-share plan?
happy 3rd of july!
-andre d
No I never bothered with said method, but having owned one of their Integrated's along with the Nait 2 Olive, I came to love their speaker cables period......
Happy 3rd indeed.
be careful, these amps are unstable with the wrong cable
thanks for the reminder. reports of problems with any particular cables would be helpful.

There is no Zobel network in the output of Niam amps, so your need a high impedance cable. A cable with spaced conductors like the Niam cable should work fine. You are going to need the proprietary connector for the amp end.
Dave
" so your need a high impedance cable."Actually, high impedance cable is not what is needed. However high INDUCTANCE is. I'm sure that you know this and just had one of those moments when the wrong word came to you.
Naim recommend cable with at least 1uH/metre to be used with a minimum length of 3.5 metres.

You got me! I did mean high inductance. I am not an engineer, so sometimes I get the terms crossed. The physical layout is obvious though. AR made a spaced conductor which I think you can still buy, but I would be reluctant to put something you can buy that cheap on something as lofty as Niam, but it would not cost much to try.
