I use a Flavor 1 AC cable on my DAC. I am very fond of the speed, clarity and dynamics it provides compared to anything else I've tried. However, I feel it imparts a bit of midrange glare and perhaps some mid-bass leanness. Would the Flavor 4 give me the strengths minus the weaknesses? Any other cords I should consider? I'm skeptical of finding a better bargain (especially since I got this one used!),

Just as much as cable geometry and materials, the connectors play a vital role in determining the voice of a power cord. For a low current device such as a DAC, a heavier cord with no shielding might not give you the results you want, and you certainly don't need more current capacity. If you're trying to flesh out midrange and upper bass, copper/gold plate should be a first choice, and Furutech F11 series would be excellent quality and superb value. Check to see what you have now.
If you can use a screwdriver, there is nothing difficult about swapping connectors. Of course, you will then not have a factory-made power cord, but you will probably have better sound.

Thanks. Currently have Furutech F25 gold on there.

Flavor 1 is shielded, 4 is not. I found in my system ALL cables being unshielded to provide better sound. Interconnects included. I also lift ALL safety grounds after reading posts by Hansen of Ayre and McGowan of PS Audio. One called safety ground a noise antenna. As usual my mantra is to try things amd only choose or eliminate things after doing so.

The Flavor 4 is known for its midrange clarity and authoritative bottom end, so I agree that it's a worthy option to consider. To my ear, the Flavor 4 is more dynamic and offers a more palpable midrange presence than the Flavor 1, and the mid-bass energy is very firm, with good upper-bass slam, and a somewhat better defined bass fundamental.
Hi Duster,
Is that specific to a DAC, or also in power amp applications?
Dave
That finding has been consistent when used with various components IME, but high current applications tend to benefit the most from that type of sonic signature, and it's one reason why I built a DIY Flavor 4 for my stereo subwoofer system featuring an outboard Bryston stereo power amplifier, including the affordability of a 9 foot run, which allowed the bulk of my audio dollars for the DIY project to be allocated towards terminating the DIY Flavor 4 with premium Oyaide 004 Beryllium AC connectors (plugged directly into an Oyaide R1 Beryllium AC outlet installed at the wall). The Flavor 4 helps to better provide the strong bottom end that Bryston power amplifiers are known for, in this case a customized stereo subwoofer application.
Well, I do have a subwoofer in my system ...

What make/model power cord including AC connectors are you using for your subwoofer?
