I assumed the Whirlwind cable would impedance match
but I guess I attributed too much from them.
Dan, the cable can't do the matching; that's why you need a DI box. I mentioned Whirlwind for their DI box. You need to run balanced from the DI to the board.
I have band practice Friday & will take some pics of our set-up for you (if I remember my camera!) so you can see what I'm talking about.
I have TWO DI boxes - A DOD pictured above
and a Rolls seen here -
Also the RadioShack unit has a transformer in it.
Hi Dan, were you using 1/4" out of the DI to the board or from the piano to the board? Either way, you're not getting a true balanced signal.
It has to be XLR> XLR from the DI to the board to work properly.
I understand you completely.
I ordered some cables to use with the DI Box.
A Samson Tourtek TI6 for the 1/4" cable.
And a Canare Star Quad for the XLR cable.
I'll try both boxes to see which works better.
