First and foremost I’ve been a complete skeptic about power cords until now.
Over the years I borrowed a few cords but could not hear any benefits,
Only 4 months ago I borrowed the Eichman cord and again nothing!
Then last month I borrowed an Oyaide p.c from the local dealer, and for the first time I thought that I could hear an improvement thus one evening a few friends and I did a blind test and the consensus amongst all of us was that the Oyaide power cord did improve the sound.
Over the next few days I did some more listening and they was no doubt in my mind that a veil was lifted, it even seemed that it sounded louder but this was due to the fact that everything seemed cleaner. I used the cord on my Pathos TT integrated amp.
I could not try it on my cd player (Pathos Endorphin) as the cord was too short.
Unfortunately the local Oyaide dealer could only supply a 6 ft length.
So I started to look on this asylum what people recommended and I came across the “Lessloss” pc.
I contacted Liudas from Lessloss he was most helpful and confirmed that he could make 2 x 2.5m length cords. I also needed a very flexible cord, I was told that it was flexible.
It was also the time when Lessloss was running a special, so I placed my order.
The next day I said to myself that I must be nut ordering something I did not even try, from an unknown company in Lithuania.
When I told my audiophiles friends they all they told me that I was mad.
While waiting for the cords to arrive I decided to fit some decent wall plugs, thus I bought and fitted an Oyaide wall receptacle to accommodate the 2 new cords.
After a 2 ˝ weeks the cords arrived, the first big disappointment was that they are fairly bulky, not wife friendly, secondly they do put some strain on the equipment sockets, this is maybe due to my layout but I had to make a plan and put some support under the beautiful Oyaide plugs which they are fitted with. And thirdly I wish that they did not come in shinny black as this make them even more obvious. Yes our lounge is also where my audio system sits in.
Anyway now the sound, unlike a lot a reviews about power cords I do not find a dramatic improvement but for me the fact that there is an improvement at all could be called dramatic.
The main change (Like with the Oyaide) is a very slight lifting of a veil which results in extra musicality, and I also found the placement of instruments within the soundstage to be more precise and palpable, the bass definition has also improved
I cannot be more specific at this stage as the changes are small.
It is also obvious that it affect mainly the amplifier, I am yet to hear difference on the cd player, I will have to report back after a few hundreds hours or so.
Was it worth the price?? YES, any improvement is worth it, and in the scheme of things the extra musicality warrants the expenses.
And yes, I am still amazed that a power cord can make a difference!!!.
