I just saw a picture that Duster posted of a Oyaide R-1 AC Outlet. http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/cables/messages/128867.htmlOn the outlet the name Nicoon is on it. I thought Nicoon was a chinese manufacturer? Anyone know the relationship between Oyaide and Nicoon? The reason I ask is a client of mine recently gave me two sets of 15amp IEC and AC male plugs that have both the name Oyaide and Nicoon on them. He told me his uncle that lives in Japan gave him several sets when visiting the US. I thought they were copies, because the name Nicoon was on the plug. The plugs have a black shell. Any info would be appreciated.
Follow Ups:
While I do not know for certain, I would suspect that Oyaide works with Nicoon on some of their black molded parts (hence the Nicoon name shown in relief, along with the VDE and CE certifications). You can see via their website that Nicoon makes a variety of black molded plugs and inlets, but show nothing of the connectors that Oyaide is manufacturing. On the rear of authentic Oyaide AC connectors, for instance, there is the legend "OYAIDE Elec. MADE IN JAPAN" big and bold surrounding the cable entry opening of the colored, opaque plastic body. Nicoon likely makes the molded plastic body on the R1, just as the previous SWO model was made by American Denki (also stamped on the face).
No different than cars and washing machines, many parts are outsourced with other manufacturers to make a completed product.
