Some amps cannot tolerate the total capacitance of a long run of "low capacitance" cable. The result can be oscillation and destruction of the amp and/or the speakers.
Follow Ups:
Any amp that can't deal with the RLC factors of a speaker cable is a piece of gargage, and shouldn't be on the market.
Period.
Let's quit beating around the bush.

While most speaker cables have a "reasonable" capacitance, some designs have extremely high capacitance - like the infamous Cat5 braided speaker cable. Some amps are designed in a way that gives excellent sound but makes them susceptible to too-high capacitance ... so if you have excessively long runs of high-capacitance cable, they are not going to like it.IE. they cope with 6' runs but not 26' runs (which will probably send them into self-destructive oscillation).
