This is one of those classic audiophile questions that has no answer. Obviously, if you really like a company's "house sound", going all the way with that company will be more predictable than mixing and matching. But sometimes it's too much of a good thing. I started with an all-Nordost Blue Heaven system, but when I substituted a digital cable by Synergistic, I loved what I'd heard. Of course, I switched to an all-Synergistic system. Then someone loaned me some Cardas interconnects, which I've tried on my amp, and now I think the sound is dialed in pretty much the way I've wanted it. Just a little smoothness and sweetness added to the Synergistic's resolution. Of course, soon I'll probably have an all-Cardas system.

There is no right answer. What should be sought is component/system synergy. There is no guarantee that a single maker's gear will offer that, while a mix won't either. It's my opinion that one should seek what works best within a system, regardless of mix or match.
