Hi
I've been looking at purchasing and building an audio note integrated valve amp for a while now and I have a question for you.
I want to update my B&w cdm1nt's at some point but not right now.
Below are the specs of the speakers and I wondered whether you thought that any of the audio note valve amps would drive them. I was mainly concerned about the 88db sensitivity.
Description: 2-way vented-box design, free-mounted 1-in alloy-dome Nautilus tweeter; 6.5-in Kevlar cone midbass; 60Hz - 25KHz +/-3dB, 88 dB spl, 8 ohms nom, 50W-120W; 15.5x8.7x11.4 (HWD), 9.5 kg net each
Thanks I would appreciate any feedback and opinions.

Build your system around your speaker is a more logical approach.
good luck.
Well AN offers powerful 30 watt plus amplifier kits - they'll have no problem with the 1NT.BUT - if your plan is to eventually dump the 1NT for an AN AX Two or AN K or J or E or whatever (and IMO that should be your plan because IMO all of them are better than the 1NT) then you should try to plan ahead.
If you go the AN route in terms of amps you want to get the Single Ended amplifier sound. (Although their push pull amps have proven to me to be about as good as Push Pull gets).
Still if the plan is to go AN speakers or HE speakers then you might want to get a higher end AN amplifier Single ended and "make do" with not being able to crank it to very high levels until you can get the speakers.
We all(err most people) have to do things in stages to make the finances work. The B&W's are not particularly hard to drive. The best actual sound quality I have ever heard with B&W was with the N801 connected to an 11 watt SET amplifier. You just could not play very loud - but B&W has never sounded better.
I would highly recommend you audition the AX Two standmount speakers (that I recently purchased for a second system). The current US list is $1200 and they eat the N805 for breakfast let alone the 705 or 1NT. You could probably sell the 1NT for reasonable money and put it towards the AX Two. It's uglier and it doesn't use fancy shmancy drivers like Kevlar or tweeter on top but as a guy who was once about to buy the 1NT myself the AX Two plays at another level.
The AX Two was designed by Andy Whittle (Celestion and LS-3/5a fame) for Audio Note. If you can afford the AN K that would be better again but it's nearly triple the price. The AX Two is very easy to drive - 8 watts is enough. I am currently reviewing the AX Two - they're the smaller standmounts beside the big AN Es in the picture. They look and sound like "mini-me" versions of the AN E.

Hi Vel,
I had, at one point in my life, used AN UK OTO SE with B&W Matrix 803 IIs with very good results. I was quite surprised that good amount of AN UK "house sound" came through. May be because B&W speakers tend to be more on the neutral side.
CDM-1 NTs are less efficient than 803s (@ 90db) but should be OK unless you like playing music really loud :)

Cheers ikeh.
Can't wait to get building and listening.
Thanks
