Hi fc911c@ptd.net
I would totally recommend Brian's C-Core Output Transformers at Audio Note Kits Canada.
His new transformers are specifically designed for the 3.1 and 4.1 models and will take that unit to another level.
There are manufacturers around who make alternatives, but what you have with those C-Cores is a guarantee of system matching to build on the SQ and integrity and balance of the music. A misplaced Trans in that position could wreck the sound and you would be going backwards not forwards....

Can you be specific as to the specific transformers your referring to? Price?
A link would be nice.
If you are referring to the Audio Note preamp transformer # 011/01A,
here is the link:

Cost is $353 British Pounds each or $533 USD each

Going off the reference page of "Preamplifier Output, Driver & Interstage Transformers" the "cheapest" Primary Winding SILVER OPT is:
TRANS-011/03-AN cost British Pounds £ 2,109.80 or US $4,173
A couple of observations:
I noticed the Audio Note 4.1 X Balanced Signature (ANUK)uses a "double C-core copper wired output transformer".
DAC 5 special uses "AN-Perma 50 double C-cores providing 600R balanced outputs"
DAC 5 Signature uses "custom Audio Note™ silver wired output transformer on 0.1 AN-Perma 50 double C-cores"
Regarding upgraded OPT- A quote from the AN Kit states:
"The ones that we normally supply are copper primary/copper secondary types. More expensive silver wound versions are also available - but only by special order."
The idea that one could get close to a Kit version of a DAC 5 is naive. But, I am thinking that a combination of upgraded OPT's among a few other selected upgrades might get a kit version sounding very, very good. The problem is, I don't think we're going to get a lot of help AN for the development of "SuperKit DAC" because of business reasons.
Hi
I ended up with the AN c core super. Can someone tell me where the green gnd wire goes to? My guess is the ground on the M2 PS board. AN kits only shows two input wires on the transformer.
Thanks
