But I would advise you to put the volume pot in the amp, so the cabling between pot and amp will be as short as possible. (otherwise you can get losses in the cabling because of the high output impedance of the pot) Use 10k pot (balanced when needed) to keep the output impedance acceptable and the 10k load is absolutely no problem for the DAC.
Follow Ups:
A 10K load is way to low for the DAC.
Why should a 10K load be too low for this DAC??? To be clear, I am talking about the DAC version with output transformers and therefore VERY low output impedance! I really can't see (or hear) a problem...
My comments would not apply if you are using an output transformer. I prefer going w/o the transformer into a higher impedance load.
