Hi,
I have seen on the home page a scrolling text announcing "24/96 Audionte DAC product line":
1-.do you have any information about this ?
2-.Will it be possible to upgrade an existing Audiontekits DAC to this new 24/96 possibility ? a simple replacement of the digital board should be enough ...
Thanks for your replies,

Ok, they are all 24/96 capable... I need to sleep another night !
No they are not, the AD1865, the Dac chip used by Audio Note is only 18bit capable.....whether this really matters is open for debate as the 6 bits it 'drops' are the least significant bits and of course bits are not linear, the MSB (most significant bit) carries 1/2 the info, the next bit 1/4 and so on and so on. By the time you get to the 19th bit your loss is very small.Where the AD1865 scores is in it's legendary musicality and the fact that it is NOS, non over sampling unlike most modern Dacs. Furthermore the Dac will handle up to 705.6kHz sample rate, so in the Audio Note implementation it is running will below it's true capability......

Bits and kHz are the ultimate criteria in mu opinion...
I have a AD1865 (that came with the DAC4.1) and a DAC based on a more modern Crystal CS4396, both are using the CS8414 receiver.
I am not totally convinced by the AD1865 performance (although I agree it is excellent) : I find that the Crystal is slightly more opened, more detailed and precise (comparison done on CD, 16/44.1).
I have upgraded the AD1865 to the N-K version (this has had no impact at all) and changed the 5687 board caps to Teflon caps (huge increased in dynamics and detail) and changed all the 5687 board resistors to 2W tantalum (slight impact).
After these upgrades, the DAC-4.1 has reached an high level of musicality, but it is still a bit below my reference dac (not a lot but a bit)... But as we all know, the dac chip is also not the only criteria...
