Hi Guys
I have a DAC 1.1 big case, with BGs, Tants and AN-V.
I think my digi board might be playing up, as I have intermittent static and it's not the tubes or dry solder joint, or appliances in the house or earthing issues or the interconnects.
SO, my question. I was thinking of ditching the old DAC digi board and getting the new signature version (as in DAC 3.1) PLUS add the IV transformers between the digi board and the analogue board, and upgrade all the transistors on the analogue board to 2W Tantalums.
Has anyone tried this, and if so, what sonics changed? I like the simplicity of this DAC (one tube) and can't stretch to a full 3.1 kit, so I was hoping this might
A) cure my static issues
B) upgrade the DAC.
I am happy with the sound right now in my all AN tubed system (though I know the 1.1 has a forward kind of presentation. it also sounds clean and has good bass, good detail.
Any insight would be super guys.

Leaving aside the static issue, have you removed the analog filter from your 1.1? If so,and you must becasuse it makes a big difference, the digital board on the 3.1 is nearly identical to what you have now. If you have the toroid input transformers already, it is exactly the same.
I tried the I/V transformers on the output of the digital board and prefer the original resistor scheme. YMMV; some people like it--some don't. I thought it slightly reduced dynamic range.
Hi Gary
I didn't remove the filter on m,y DAC 1.1 digi board, as I believe it was always without.
My model is 2006, so maybe the earlier ones had a filter?
I find it interesting re IV transformers and the loss of dynamics. I wonder if you
had to change the resister on the digi board before hooking up the IVs? I am buying the current Signature Digi board without the op amps bits to the front edge of the board, which I think
the IVs take on instead. (not totally sure here).
I asked Brian to set the Digi board to run with the IV and into my old analogue board, so hopefully it will be ok sound / signal level wise.
somewhere in AA are extensive discussions on Audio Note DACS... look for those posted by jmrxcd (I tnink?).
it involves changing the digital receiver and the DAC chip.
