Hi everyone,
Just thought that you may know what's wrong with my Audio Note preamp. When I turn volume till 12 o'clock it starts to make scratchy static noise. Similar like dirty pot but it was changed recently so I guess it is clean. Balance pot behaves similarly and no matter what channel I choose, situation remains the same. I was looking for the answer in this forum but it seems that the problem isn't very common. Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hi Rolandas
I had this same problem on my Audio Note Pre (factory). It was the AN DAC 1.1 coupling caps leaking which were the older AN Paper in Oil types. The static is amounts of DC leaking through to the pre amp. A way to check, is try the pre amp with a tuner or something else, to see if it goes away. If not, maybe the Caps in your pre are at fault, or some resistors in the output board.
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks astrostar. Btw, is it safe to use preamp when there is some leakage?
Hi Rolandas
It should be ok as long as it's not too loud, so 5% of the music level or so. If it is louder, the tube may be on the way out, or a more serious problem could be the cause. But from your description I would say the Caps are going letting DC through, or a dry solder joint (can be worse after warm up as it expands), or tube pins are dirty, or just an old tube. I would be surprised if it was anything else.
