A new preamp? Will it be a companion piece to the MX-R monoblocks (i.e., slotted in above the K-1xe)? Or will it slot in between the 1 and 5 series, or perhaps be a lower price, value offering (7-series)? Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be interesting. To the extent it is more of a statement piece, I hope it will offer (in addition to the great sound we've come to expect from your designs) some of the set-up features seen on the VTL 7.5 or Levinson 326.
Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks again for your constant presence and thoughtful perspective on the forum. - Pete -
P.S., On the optical disc front, I saw a Maxell add relating to the In-Phase holographic technology which will ultimately leave Blu Ray in the dust. The add (perhaps premature?) referenced postage stamp sized storage of 2Gb, credit card sized storage of 20Gb, and 5" optical disc storage of 300Gb.

Follow Ups:
We're putting the finishing touches on the MX-R monoblocks now and should release them to production soon. It takes a while to ramp up production, but I expect them to be shipping in the last half of June.We will make a matching preamp for them, but don't have a definite timetable yet as we haven't started officially working on it. I've been kicking around ideas for volume controls and have come up with a new idea that should be a step beyond anything that's come before. Of course, we'll have to build it and see if it actually works!
As far as features, the "R" series products will have a linking feature called "AyreLink". There will also be a "processor pass-through" mode like our K-5xe. Is there anything else that's important?

Thanks for the update on the monoblocks Charles. I know from talking with Steve and Michael, everyone there is very excited about them and the performance they will deliver. With regard to the preamp, the main feature I was hoping to see would be level matching between inputs. As you know (e.g., C-5xe playing SACD), there can be a wide variation between sources, and it would be nice if "33" on the preamp volume control would be able to provide roughly the same volume levels regardless of source.
Also, given the potential for more balanced sources, it would be nice to have at least four (4) balance inputs [I'm currently using the two (2) on the K-5xe (by way of the D-1xe and C-5xe), and would ultimately like to add a turntable or possibly use the pass-through you described (or even some other balanced source option which may appear during the next decade or two)].
Finally, an optional phono input (maintaining or exceeding the quality of the P-5xe, of course) would be a bonus, as it could eliminate a box and corresponding interconnects and power cord.
Last time I spoke with Michael and Steve, they still didn't know the final pricing or shipping schedule for the L-5xe or signature speaker cable -- any update? Thanks again. - Pete -

I'm thinking that we will be able to accomodate this, although it's too early to say for sure.

We won't do this, as it would then force the use of an external power supply. This would significantly increase the cost for those who did not order the phono option, and nullify any potential savings for those who did.

Sorry, we don't have that yet. We have made some changes in these products compared to the prototypes we had at CES, resulting in some delays. I think the power cords will come first, maybe in the next month or two.
