I find that control and remote functions are often ignored in reviews and ads. I'd like to find an under-$2000 tube pre with real balance, bass, and treble controls, a remote that provides pwr-source-volume control, and hopefully an amp trigger or at least a switched outlet. Any suggestions for my list?

Follow Ups:
A Sunfire Classic Tube Preamp has everything you want except source selection on the remote. Joe at JMSound (jmsound.com) has a second hand one right now for $1399.
You can also look for a vintage older pre-amp that has tone controls (e.g. Eico)and add a new remote control. Audio Electronic Supply sells a kit to modify an existing preamp to add a remote control (about $200, look under the "Kits" section.) You can often find people who will do the mod for you. Be sure to check that the kit will work in whatever preamp you select.

Don't know of any off-hand but if you are looking for a linestage I would recommend getting the preamp with the sound you want and putting a TacT RCS in front of it to tweek the tonal and left/right balance. I think in the end this solution will give you far greater control over your system and allow you to tailor the sound to suit your tastes.
Outside his budget and digital. If he were to eschew tubes and analog, I'd suggest a z-systems rdp-1 and a decent DAC.
