Thank you for clarifying the context of your post. I do not understand why you are limiting the XR45's (an integrated HT receiver) sonic competition to seperates (transport,"expensive" Dac,preamp,amp).

"Its a bit shrill on the high end" is exactly what Enzo, Nietchze, I and a few others are hearing as well with the Panny xr45. A few others do not seem to find this in their systems for whatever reason. I can not accept an amp with this quality as being anywhere near the "finest" at $1k and under, nevermind $4k and under.

As we all should understand, audio is about personal preferences and synergies. I like the XR45 at its price point and think it is a great HT receiver. It did not outdo the Unico Integrated paired with the Sony XE670 in my system. That is about $1500 worth of gear. I was really hoping the XR45 would meet all its hype in my system so I can sell my equipment and buy a lot of beer or something. I am still very sober.
