My beloved 3 input placette passive preamp has died.
The volume toggle still shows changes in volume, so it is getting power, but the input selector does not work. That is to say there is 'no input' and hence no output.
Input selection is by remote only. I have a universal remote that does light up. I suspect that if that were the problem the preamp would be stuck in one input, not zero.
Suggestions?
Does anyone fix these?
Follow Ups:
I just acquired a second Placette Passive Linestage as part of a combo deal, and I don't need both. I was planning on selling one if you are interested. The new one has some custom features that I'm still evaluating.
As others have noted, Placette Audio is no longer in business, sad to say. I sent a question by email and eventually I received a brief reply that all of the stock is gone. However the website is still up there, even the ordering page!
When you flip the Volume toggle you say it "still shows changes in Volume" so I interpret that to mean the LEDs still cycle through their binary sequence. BUT.... do you hear actual relays clicking away in sync with the binary LEDs ??When you attempt to switch inputs do you hear any relays clicking (even though there is no output signal) ?

no clicking
Abe should I just get a Kara?
If the LEDs sequence that tells me that the clock and binary counter are working but something driving the relays is not working. If only one relay were not working I'd suspect it or a driver but something common to all relays is amiss. Not having a schematic or means to troubleshoot remotely I'm just guessing.I like the Kara! See my post above.
If you can't reach Placette and want to send it to me I can have a quick look [FREE!]. I'm retired with time on my hands ;-) But no guarantees. I might just have to send it right back un-repaired for the cost of shipping.

It's up in Montreal, so it will have o wait a month
Have you tried the manufacturer, whose website is still up and running, and where you will find that he provides a lifetime warranty on his products?
no reply
I tried contacting them about a new unit a year or so ago and received the following reply:
Please make a note.
Placette Audio has closed.

Debra
Can the unit be operated manually - w/o the remote?
If yes, can you change inputs, and get a signal to pass through the unit?
Do you have a different pre-amp, that you can use to test interconnects, signal sources and power amps?
Assuming everything works except the Placette - as your OP said,
if you are comfortable, open it up to see if anything looks amiss - loose wire?
disconnected something...
I am not familiar with this unit - but if it is a passive, there should not be many moving parts inside...

no manual controls
no manual controls
rest checks out
Sounds like a relay or some switching function died -
need a schematic and parts list...
Good luck
