Marantz succumbs to the dark side with Class D modules in the spendy PM-10 integrated. $8000? Really!?
For that kind of money I'd be looking at a real audiophile integrated like the BAT VK-3000SE.
Follow Ups:
we seem to agree re Class D but not with antique tubes, would not touch either with a barge pole. Can never understand why an amp or receiver for that matter has an output that can be used in another room. This amp you recommend is also very expensive unknown in the UK. Best amps at the moment are Naim IMO they outperform all the many amps I have auditioned but again expensive.
I love tubes but I'm not a huge fan of expensive NOS as there are many currently manufactured tubes that sound great.
It's no secret that I'm not very fond of Class D amps having owned a few over the years. Every new iteration is supposed to bring them 'to the next level' but why when we already have traditional Class AB designs that have reached that 'next level' decades ago. Just my 2 cents worth and I don't want to start another Class D war.
BAT has been around for a long time and they have a rich history of making fine audio gear, both solid-state and vacuum tube. I have owned a few BAT pieces in the past including a couple preamps and a power amp.
The BAT VK-3000SE that I mentioned is a somewhat recent integrated amp that replaces the older VK-300 series. I would love to try one someday.
