Two weeks and counting and still no Rogue Audio RP-5. The reserved shelf remains empty . . . cold . . . lifeless . . . silent! Waaaaaaaah! I am suffering a First World problem! ;-)
Oh well, good thing the PS Audio GCPH into the Krell Foundation sounds as good as they do! RP-5 should be in soon.

Settling in with some CD rips from MacMini to Oppo as DAC.
Look at the size of the thing - it's every bit as big as the CJ 2250 power amp.

Enjoy it Josh !
One of these days I need to get one of those subs.
How do you like them ?

Thanks Dean!
I like the RELs a lot. I follow RELs recommended approach, which is to use the Neutrik Speakon connectors and keep bumping the crossover frequency levels lower and lower until they are "invisible". That allows you to boost gain setting up a bit. Ideally, they should seem invisible until you turn them off and notice everything kind of "shrink." With two it takes longer before they are dialed in, but seems worth it in the end to minimize suck-out spots or directivity. They are now virtually seamless, though I will admit to having some boominess on certain very bass-heavy music, like songs by Morphine and Cowboy Junkies and some cuts by Beck. It can be tricky to get those few songs just right without backing off the gain a bit more than ideal for 98% of the music. After the Rogue Audio is all burned it, I'll likely be tweaking them a little bit, but they're darn close.
Only after optimizing the subs for 2 channel, should you set them for 5.1 HT (if even applicable). You want to set your processor to full range for the L&R speakers so that the RELs continue to extend them through the Neutrik connectors, and then adjust the LFE input for the appropriate level of very low frequency bump. I know all the theoretical reasons for why this REL recommended approach is not ideal for home theater, but the result is just outstanding and seamless for both 2 channel and HT once everything is set correctly.
But as cool as the system is for TV and movies, my true love of this system is for how it handles stereo music. I really enjoy the MacMini --> Oppo as DAC --> Rogue, and the VPI --> internal phono stage of Rogue. The Rogue works nicely with the CJ ss power amp. In fact it has a sound similar to CJ's old Premier LS17 preamp, though a wee bit more "liquid" and "full" sounding without being overly lush.
Yes, there are lots of boxes! A bit unsightly for lovers of simple systems, but once a particular chain is engaged it's pretty simple and the results are fun!

I appreciate all the information.
I've only had two subs and was not able to get either one to blend well.
But, that was a long time ago and I have more patience now.
Less funding... but more patience.
There's always a catch !
Thanks again. Its something I definitely want to try.

Looking forward to reading your reviews. Enjoy and don't forget to post!!!
Congrats! Break in was very smooth and easy. Did you put your NOS tubes in yet? The interior build quality is something else.

Paul at Goodwin's High End pre-installed the NOS Mullards and set the phono gain and loading for my DV20X2L (I told him what settings had worked best during my home audition). He even tested it all out while I was on the way over.
It was a bit "tight" sounding for the first couple of hours, but already sounds lovely after about 6 hours. And you are right about the NOS Mullards. Bass is strong, deep and a lot tighter than the demo I auditioned with the JJs. Less lushness, more transparency, but still just a touch of bloom. Just great!
And it's a beautiful layout inside. Clean and logical. I've not opened the new one but had the demo open to play with the loading options. Almost wish they offered an acrylic display top!

Very nice looking rig! I will be interested in your take on the Rogue, particularly the phono stage.
Not that big a fan of video, tho'.
But, I'm old.

Actually, I turn it off when I listen to music but forgot to for this picture.
It's not bad for movies and concert DVD/Blurays though. Was watching Stop Making Sense the other day on Bluray and digging it!

I like that MF2250 in the photo. I generally favor tube amps but that CJ solid-state amp was pretty nice sounding as I recall. I had one in my system many years ago.
Please let us know what you think of the RP-5 long term after you've had it for a while. Thanks! Enjoy.
Wow! Mine took 8 days from the time I ordered it to picking it up at Overture in DE. It is well worth the wait. Remember, patience is a virtue. I have had a 4K deposit down on the GE Triton Reference speakers since mid February and the ETA is still about 6-7 weeks away. I am way beyond patient now.

About an hour ago I got an email that it arrived earlier today!
Yes, you are waaaaaay more patient than I am!
Will pick it up tomorrow. Psyched!
