It is beyond me that in 2017 CJ makes entry level preamps and integrated amps without a remote! No excuse IMHO.In addition to all of the other suggestions, here's one I often recommend. ;-)

Many years ago, while in college, and dealing with a failed remote, we used something similar, mostly on NFL Sundays during simulcast games where switching between two contests at the same time was absolutely required, we had the "Video Broom". Worked flawlessly. Were it me, I'd retrofit a motorized control. See if there is enough room behind the existing pot to install one. You would then need to accommodate the infrared receiver, but you could probably install that on the underside in a small ... tiny, actually ... unobtrusive project box box that faces the front.
I'm also in the "don't want no stinkin' remote" school, but not everyone feels the same way, and I believe you should get the features you feel are required. The idea is to get the system that makes you happy.

I have a c-j Classic 2SE and love the way it sounds.... I either just get up off my lazy ass, or I use the remote on my dac or Blu-ray for not so critical listening....
I've have had many preamplifiers over the years and this is the best sounding hands down....to me anyway... I have used it for three years now, with different amps and speakers, and it's the last component I would think of replacing for a while.
My CJ is over a decade old, but I agree. I found it shocking that their new cav-45 has no remote. I wish the gizmo you show was 8 ft long LOL
